thought for today

Spontaneity invites us all to become new—
new in thought,
new in substance,
new in being.
It bids us “put off the old man,” and “put on the new.”

(Read the full poem All things new… by James Walter,
in the January 2026 issue of The Christian Science Journal)

Wishing you all the blessings, peace, and comfort of the New Year.

Springfield, Virginia, Reading Room (5315 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151) is hosting two public talks on the history and archaeology of the Old Testament.

Saturday, 22 April      1 pm          A Tale of Two Kingdoms (Israel and Judah)

Saturday, 13 May        1 pm         The Dead Sea Scrolls Demystified

Questions should be directed to ClerkCSSpringfield@gmail.com or 703-941-7540.

The speaker, Bruce Slawter, has presented several hundred talks on the origins of the Bible.  Based upon extensive outside research and travel to the Near East, his presentation will include recent Biblical archeological news.

To help commemorate this season’s convergence of two important holidays – one Christian, the other Jewish – Mr. Slawter invites you to read his latest blog, which is a tribute to the scribes who faithfully put the final touches on our Old Testaments and Hebrew Bibles.

“May this Easter and Passover bring each of you and your families renewed faith, new hope, and continued blessings.  Hope to see you at one of the upcoming talks on “Biblical Israel” in Springfield, VA.

Warmest regards,  Bruce Slawter”
