Our Mission is to serve and support the sincere seeker of Truth—to share a message of God’s love and its healing impact on humanity. This truth as recorded in the Bible and the inspired explanation found in Mary Baker Eddy’s writings is available to any visitor.
The primary purpose of the Reading Room is to make Mary Baker Eddy’s seminal work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, available to spiritual seekers. Her other writings are also available in addition to other publications that continue to share inspiration and healing. The Bible is also available.
This Christian Science Reading Room has been in operation since 1948. At that time, several Christian Science churches in the District of Columbia joined together to provide a Reading Room in the downtown area for anyone to find out more about Christianly scientific healing.
In its over 70 years of operation, it has been located in several places in the city—on K Street NW in the financial district for many years, on 13th and E Streets NW near Freedom Plaza, on 12th Street by Franklin Park, and recently at 18th and Columbia NW in the heart of Adams-Morgan.
The Adams-Morgan location has closed, and the Reading Room will be reopening elsewhere in the District. Watch for updates here.
Students of Christian Science organize themselves locally in churches. Many churches in the DC area, including those in Maryland and Virginia, contribute to this operation in the desire to make the deep healing message of the Bible available to all.
