Spiritual help in difficult times, Harlem and Black History Month, and more….

Harlem

Join us to hear two inspiring podcasts this week.

Sentinel Watch     Sticking with God when life is really bleak

This Sentinel podcast guest was a freshman in college in a country not his own right after he’d lost 90% of his hearing. And that was just one of several difficult challenges he faced. He shares how sticking with God and learning more about Him can bring us out of—and heal—even the most serious challenges.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1)

   PODCAST: WHY WE WROTE THIS

CREATIVITY

For Harlem, can a renaissance remembered also be revived?

When a cultural commentator touched down in New York’s Harlem for a walking tour, he found the touchstones of Black history are palpable, abundant, and inspiring. Reporting on a major exhibition on Harlem’s 1920s renaissance that opened this week, he shares about the Harlem of today. Listen to this interesting 10-minute conversation “Finding the soul of Harlem.”

The Monitor’s Special Project Rebuilding Trust continues with new articles. Following up on last week’s podcast about Artificial Intelligence, Monday’s article about AI generated videos shows the increasing challenge now of trusting pictures, in the news and otherwise. Previously dependable for accuracy, now we question videos — which are true and which are fake?

As Black History Month draws to a close, the article about Robert Smalls in upcoming books or film presentations recognizes his extraordinary courage and compassion. Escaping slavery, he served in the Civil War and then as an elected public servant, working to establish free public schools, and then ultimately purchased the house of his former enslavers and provided them with needed shelter. Enjoy this feature article!

Watch for future separate virtual gatherings in March focused on trends in Monitor reporting. Plan to join and listen to podcasts, news, information, and to share solutions.
